Winpossee: Dvr Default Password

Deep Report: Winpossee DVR Default Password Vulnerabilities

Part 7: A Note on Winpossee Customer Support

Winpossee is a budget brand, and their official support can be slow. However, they do respond to email. If all reset methods fail:

  • Email: support@winpossee.com
  • Subject: DVR Model [e.g., WP-4CH-DVR] – Password Reset Request
  • Attach: A photo of the sticker on the bottom/top of your DVR (showing model number and serial number).

They may provide a custom unlock code or firmware file specific to your unit.

Alternatively, search YouTube for “Winpossee DVR reset model number” – many resellers post video tutorials.

Typical default credentials

  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin
  • Password: 123456
  • Password: 888888 Note: Exact defaults vary by model and firmware. If one of the above doesn't work, the device may have a different factory password or the password was changed.

1. Executive Summary

Winpossee is a brand commonly associated with low-cost, white-label surveillance systems (often rebranded from generic Chinese OEM manufacturers like H.264/5 DVRs, Xmeye, or NetSurveillance). These devices are frequently targeted by botnets (e.g., Mirai variants) due to unchanged default credentials. The most common default login combination is admin with a blank password or admin / 123456. winpossee dvr default password

Method 1: The Universal “Backdoor” Reset Code

Many Winpossee DVRs have a hidden administrator backdoor. Here is how to use it:

  1. On the login screen, click the “Forgot Password” or “Reset Password” link (sometimes represented by a key or question mark icon).
  2. A window will appear asking for a Security Code or Reset Code.
  3. Look at the code displayed on screen – it is usually a 6-digit or 8-digit number (e.g., 482139).
  4. Take that code and generate the master reset password using one of the following formulas:

| If the DVR shows: | The master reset password is: | | :--- | :--- | | 6 digits | 123456 + (the 6 digits) – *Example: code 482139 → password 123456482139* | | 8 digits | abcdef + (the 8 digits) – Example: ABCDEF12345678 |

Simpler method: For most Winpossee DVRs, if you see a 6-digit code, type exactly:
123456 followed by the 6-digit code. Email: support@winpossee

Real-world example:
Screen says: Reset Code: 250319
You type into password field: 123456250319

Press Enter. The DVR will reset to factory defaults, clearing the old password back to 12345. Your recorded footage will NOT be deleted.

⚠️ Note: This backdoor works on approximately 70% of Winpossee models using firmware before 2022. Newer units may have patched this. They may provide a custom unlock code or

Step 4: The "Backdoor" Admin Account (Advanced)

Some Winpossee OEM systems have a hidden backdoor account for service technicians. This is not guaranteed, but on certain Xmeye-based DVRs, you can try:

  • Username: default
  • Password: default

If this works, immediately create a new admin account and delete the backdoor user.

No Password (Blank)

On rare occasions, especially with factory-fresh units that were never initialized:

  • Username: admin
  • Password: [leave blank]

C. Reset to Factory Defaults (If Unknown)

  • Press and hold the physical reset button on the DVR for 30 seconds (usually near the video inputs).
  • After reset, the unit will revert to admin / 123456 or admin/blank.
