Usage
Part 1: What is a CDP File? (And Why Won’t It Just Work?)
Before discussing converters, we must understand the enemy—and the friend.
A .cdp file is essentially a compressed archive, similar to a .zip or .rar, but specifically designed for N3V Games' Trainz architecture. Inside a CDP, you will find: trainz cdp converter
- Config.txt (the brain of the asset, telling Trainz how to behave)
- Mesh files (
.im or .pm for 3D modeling)
- Texture files (
.tga, .bmp, or compressed .texture)
- Sound and script files
When Should You Use It?
- You have old routes/assets from Trainz 2004/2006 – Convert them to CDP2 for modern Trainz versions.
- You need to manually fix a faulty asset – Extract, edit config.txt, then repack.
- You want to reduce loading times – Convert older CDPs to CDP2 (smaller file size, faster access).
- You are sharing assets with users on different Trainz versions – Convert to the appropriate CDP version.
- Content Manager fails to import a file – The Converter often provides detailed error messages.
