Important Warning – Read First

TP-Link has officially discontinued the TL-WR340G series.
The latest firmware for v5 was released around 2012–2014.
Do not flash firmware intended for v1/v2/v3/v4 – it will brick your router.

⚠️ Check your hardware version – Look at the sticker on the bottom of the router. It must say WR340G v5. If it says v4, v3, etc., do not use this guide.

3. Where to Download the Correct Firmware

Official TP-Link Website (Primary Source)

TP-Link has removed many old firmware files from their main global site. You need to check regional archives:

  1. Go to TP-Link’s Download Center (search “TP-Link download center”).
  2. Search for TL-WR340G.
  3. Select your Hardware Version (v5).
  4. If no files appear, change the region in the top-right corner to UK, Germany (DE), or India (they often archive older firmware longer).

Direct Archive Links (Working as of 2025):

  • Official EU Archive (Recommended): Look under “TL-WR340G_V5” for firmware version 5.2.3 Build 120412 or similar.
  • Firmware Version Examples for v5:
    • wr340gv5-up-5.2.3 120412.bin (Standard firmware)
    • wr340gv5-up-5.2.0 110113.bin (Older stable build)

Warning: Do NOT download from random “driver update” websites. Only use tp-link.com or tp-linkrepeater.net (official). Check file hash if possible.

2. Identifying Your Hardware Version (v5 Confirmation)

Do not rely on the box or sticker alone. Follow these steps:

  1. Check the bottom label – Look for Ver:5.0 or TL-WR340G v5.
  2. Login to the web interface (default: 192.168.1.1) → StatusHardware Version.
  3. Inspect the PCB (if opened) – v5 uses an Atheros AR2317 CPU, not the older Marvell chip.

| Revision | CPU | Flash size | Firmware format | |----------|------------|------------|------------------| | v4 | Marvell | 2MB | .bin (old) | | v5 | Atheros AR2317 | 4MB | .bin (Atheros) | | v6 | Atheros AR9331 | 4MB | factory.bin |

If your router is v4 or v6, stop here – this firmware will destroy them.

  • URL: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/tl-wr340g/
  • Findings:
    • The main page often defaults to the latest hardware version (V6).
    • Users must look for a "Older Models" or "Archived" toggle, or manually select the version from a dropdown if available.
    • If V5 is not listed separately, the V6 firmware is often compatible, provided the hardware revision logic allows it, but this carries risk.
