Here’s a balanced review for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023, PS5), written as if for a gaming site or fan community:
Review: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – Swinging Higher, But With a Few Tangled Webs
Platform: PS5 | Developer: Insomniac Games | Genre: Action-Adventure / Open World
Score: 9/10
1. Double the Webs, Double the Action
The most significant gameplay shift is the ability to swap between Peter and Miles instantly during free-roam. Each Spider-Man feels distinct:
- Peter Parker: Utilizes gadget-heavy combat and, eventually, the symbiote powers which add a brutal, heavyweight feel to his fighting style.
- Miles Morales: Relies on his bio-electric "Venom" powers and evolved camouflage abilities, offering a faster, more stealth-oriented approach.
A Living, Breathing New York
The map has doubled in size, adding the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn. While these areas lack the verticality of Manhattan’s skyscrapers, they offer charming suburbs, cemeteries (including a poignant visit to Uncle Ben’s grave), and the Parker family home. The game respects its geography: the view from Avengers Tower, the Sanctum Sanctorum, and the Wakandan embassy feels authentic to Marvel lore.
The side content has also matured. Gone are the repetitive “crime towers” of the first game. Instead, we get “The Flame” (a cult story with deep ties to the villain Carnage) and Mysterium challenges that warp reality. Even the mundane tasks—finding photo ops, rescuing lost pigeons—are infused with character-driven banter between Peter and Miles via the in-game phone.
The Verdict
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a triumph. It takes the solid foundation of the first game and builds a skyscraper on top of it. It respects the source material while daring to tell its own original story. Whether you are a die-hard comic fan or just someone who loves a great action-adventure game, this is a must-play. Review: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – Swinging Higher, But
