3. The Activation Logic

In the v3 era, the software required an "Activation Code" (usually found on the back of the CD case or in a card inside the box).

Upon launching a lesson for the first time, the software will prompt for activation.
Enter the activation ID.
Crucial Step for Legacy Users: Because the activation servers for v3 were officially retired years ago, the "Activate Online" feature will fail.
You must use the "Activate by Phone" or "Activate Manually" feature. The software will generate a "Request Code."
- Note for legacy support: If you have a valid proof of purchase, customer support may be able to generate a response code for you, though support for v3 is extremely limited now.

Step 1: Install the Application

Locate the setup file (usually RosettaStoneVersion3.exe on Windows).
Run the installer. If you are on Windows 10/11, right-click the file and select Properties > Compatibility > Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
Follow the on-screen prompts. It is recommended to keep the default installation path (C:\Program Files (x86)\Rosetta Stone\Rosetta Stone Version 3) to minimize file path errors.
