2024.1 Extra Quality - Red Giant Universe

Feature: The "HUD-Free" Supercomp Export (via Universe 2024.1's improved Lens Flare & Glow)

While Universe 2024.1 includes many updates, the most practically useful new capability is the enhanced, multi-layer EXR support in Lens Flare and Glow combined with Supercomp.

Red Giant Universe 2024.1: Smarter, Faster GPU Power & New Creative Controls

The 2024.1 release of Red Giant Universe marks a significant shift toward real-time performance and expanded creative flexibility. Rather than just adding effects, Maxon focused on modernizing the engine’s core—making complex plugins usable in high-resolution, high-frame-rate workflows without proxy renders. New Transitions for Editors

Editors rarely have time to build custom transitions from scratch. Universe 2024.1 adds three new transition categories to the Overlord transition pack: Feature: The "HUD-Free" Supercomp Export (via Universe 2024

  1. The Data Mosh Transition: A violent, compression-artifact transition perfect for glitch-core music videos or tech breakdowns. It actually decimates the frame data mathematically for a true "file corruption" look.
  2. The Whip Pan (Procedural): Unlike standard whip pans that require motion blur samples, this procedural version uses vector math to create the blur, rendering instantly and allowing you to change the "blur color" to neon cyan or hot pink.
  3. The Light Leak Array: 15 new organic light leaks scanned from actual vintage camera lenses (Zeiss and Canon FD mounts). These feel authentic, not synthetic.

What's new?

  • Real-time Thumbnails: Previously, presets showed static icons. Now, the browser renders a looping animation of the effect applied to your actual footage. You can see what "Glitch Dissolve" looks like on your clip without applying it first.
  • Smart Tagging: The library has been re-tagged with over 500 new keywords. Searching for "corporate minimal" or "horror stutter" now yields immediate, relevant results.
  • Drag-and-Drop for Transitions: You can now literally drag a transition from the Universe panel directly onto the seam between two clips in Premiere Pro. No more "Apply > Adjust > Replace."

For editors on a deadline, this feature alone justifies the upgrade. What's new
