Mystery Legends: Beauty and the Beast is a dark hidden-object adventure game developed by Pixel Storm and published by Big Fish Games. Unlike the traditional fairytale, this version follows Belle as she attempts to save her Prince from a stone curse cast by a vengeful Enchantress. Story and Gameplay Mechanics
The Narrative: The story is framed as a bedtime tale told by a queen to her son. It involves a magical golden nightingale, an unwanted suitor named Dorian, and a race against time to break a curse before it becomes permanent at midnight.
Hidden Object Scenes (HOS): The game features challenging HOS that often require finding 20 specific items, such as roses, to collect crystal shards containing the Beast's soul.
Difficulty Levels: Players can choose from three difficulty modes, which affect the recharge rate of the Hint and Skip buttons.
Companions: Throughout the journey, players are assisted by whimsical characters, including a mystical owl, Pinocchio, and a leprechaun. Walkthrough Highlights
Comprehensive guides and video walkthroughs are available for players who get stuck: Mystery Legends: Beauty and the Beast - Big Fish Games
Chapter 1: The Village
- Start by exploring the village and talking to the villagers.
- Collect items and clues from the scene, including a letter from your father and a map of the surrounding area.
- Use the map to find the location of the Beast's castle.
Quick Tips Before You Start
- Always check your journal – It tracks your current tasks and hints.
- Interactive areas glow subtly – Hover your cursor around the scene if you’re stuck.
- Use the hint button sparingly – It recharges, but too early = wasted time.
- Play the bonus chapter – It adds a solid 45–60 minutes of extra story.
10. Troubleshooting Common Bugs (Big Fish Edition)
If you downloaded this from Big Fish Games and are experiencing issues, try these fixes:
- The game crashes at the Clock Puzzle: This is a known Windows 10 compatibility bug. Solution: Right-click the game icon > Properties > Compatibility > Run as Windows 7.
- Cursor disappearing in hidden object scenes: Alt+Tab out of the game and back in. This resets the rendering engine.
- Stuck on a black screen after the intro: Disable "Visual Themes" in the launcher options before starting the game.
- Save file corruption: Big Fish versions save locally. Navigate to
%AppData%\ERS\BeautyandtheBeast\ and back up your save.dat file.
6. Chapter 4: The Gardens & The Beast’s Anger
Objective: Defeat the frozen wolves and repair the sundial.
Scene 1: The Hedge Maze
- Navigation Path: Up, Left, Down, Right, Up (look for the broken statue as a landmark).
- Collectible Alert: In the center of the maze, a frozen fountain holds the Golden Rose. Use the enchanted fire gem from your inventory to melt the ice.
- Hidden Object Scene: Find winter-themed items (Mittens, Scarf, Snowflake).
- Tricky item: The "Icicle" is hanging from the bottom of the bench.
Scene 2: The Sundial
- Mechanical Puzzle: The sun rays are blocked by metal plates.
- Solution: Slide the plates so the slots align to form a star shape. The order of rotation: Bottom-left plate twice, Top plate once, Bottom-right plate three times.
- Result: The sundial opens to reveal the third Heart Mirror Shard.
Boss Puzzle (Chapter 4): The Ice Golem
- This is a match-3 battle. You must match red (fire) gems to damage the golem. Avoid matching blue (ice) gems, as they heal him.
- Strategy: Focus on creating "T" and "L" shaped matches to generate bomb gems.
Chapter 2: The Grand Clockwork Hall
Now things get mechanical. You’ll need to fix the central clock to proceed.
Clock Puzzle Solution:
- Left gear = Turn once clockwise
- Middle gear = Turn twice counter-clockwise
- Right gear = Turn once clockwise
Once aligned, take the Cog Key from the clock face.
Use the Cog Key on the door to the East Wing.
Chapter 4: The Rose and the Curse
Objective: Break the spell.
Inside the bedroom, the atmosphere is tragic. Shredded curtains hang from the windows, and in the center, under a glass cloche, sits a glowing red rose. Petals are falling slowly.
Before you can reach the rose, the Beast appears—a towering figure of shadow and fur. He does not attack, but he blocks your path. He speaks of his shame.
- The Dialogue: You are given a choice. Do not choose "Run" or "Fight." Choose "Compassion." Select the dialogue option: "I am not here to steal. I am here to save my father."
- The Final Lock: The Beast steps aside, but the glass cloche is locked by a complex puzzle involving rings of the zodiac. Consult the Cryptex Cylinder found earlier. It lists the planetary alignments.
- Solution: Rotate the rings so the symbols match the alignment on the Cryptex (Mercury to Gemini, etc.).
- The Petal: The glass lifts. You must touch the rose. A blinding light fills the room.
