The Gain Knob (Input Stage)

The manual says "Adjusts input sensitivity." Boring. Here is the truth: Keep the gain between 9 o’clock and 2 o’clock for 90% of instruments.

  • Below 9 o’clock: Introduces a high-cut filter (accidental, but useful for taming shrill piezo pickups).
  • 2 o’clock to Max: Enters "sweet spot" harmonic saturation. For bass guitar, crank the gain to 3 o’clock and reduce the volume. The manual doesn't tell you this is where the mythical "console preamp" sound lives.
