ಕಳೆದ ತಿಂಗಳು ೧೫ರಂದು ರಾತ್ರಿ ಸುಮಾರು ೧೧ಕ್ಕೆ, ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಮೂಲದ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿ ಶ್ರೀಧರ್ ಎಸ್ (೪೨) ಅವರ ಪತ್ನಿ ಭಾರತಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ಕರೆ ಬಂತು. ಮರೆಯಾದ ನಂಬರ್ನಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಆ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಮಹಿಳೆಯ ಕಂಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಗೀತೆಯ ಸಾಲುಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಪುನರಾವರ್ತನೆಯಾದವು:
“ಹೆಣ್ಣೇ ಕೇಳು ನಿನ್ನಯ ಗೋಲು... ಗೋಲು ನನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೆ...”
ಮರುದಿನವೇ ಭಾರತಿ ಅವರು ಉತ್ತರ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಡಿಸಿಪಿ ಸುನೀಲ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಿದರು. ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೊಂದು ಕೌಟುಂಬಿಕ ತಮಾಷೆ ಅಥವಾ ತಪ್ಪು ನಂಬರ್ ಎಂದು ತಳ್ಳಿಹಾಕಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ನಂತರದ ೪ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೇ ರೀತಿಯ ಕರೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತೆ ಮೂವರು ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ಬಂದಾಗ, ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಎಚ್ಚೆತ್ತುಕೊಂಡರು.
