Understanding the Version
- V100R003C00SPC100: This versioning follows a common nomenclature used by Huawei:
V100: Indicates the major version.
R003: Suggests the second-level version or release.
C00: Refers to a specific patch or feature set.
SPC100: Indicates a specific build or service pack level.
Option B: eNSP v1.3 (latest community version before deprecation)
Some educators have preserved v1.3.00.100 (released 2019). Get it only from trusted GitHub repos with checksums:
- Check SHA-256 before running.
- Run inside Windows Sandbox or VM.
- Use VirtualBox 5.2.44 (last compatible).
2. Key Features of this Version
- Graphical User Interface (GUI): It provides a visual topology design interface, allowing users to drag and drop devices (routers, switches, firewalls) to create network topologies.
- High Fidelity: It uses the same VRP (Versatile Routing Platform) software found in real Huawei hardware. Commands used in eNSP are identical to those used on physical devices.
- Device Support:
- Routers: AR series (e.g., AR2220, AR3260).
- Switches: S series (e.g., S5700, S3700).
- Firewalls: USG series (requires loading specific firmware images).
- Other: Cloud devices, CPE, ATN.
- Integration with Tools:
- Wireshark: It features a built-in capture function that interfaces directly with Wireshark for packet analysis.
- VirtualBox: This software relies on Oracle VirtualBox to run the virtual machines for the network devices.
3. Installation and Setup
Once you have downloaded the setup.zip:
- Extract the Archive: Right-click the zip file and extract it to a folder on your desktop.
- Run as Administrator: Locate the
eNSP_Setup.exe file inside the extracted folder. Right-click and select "Run as Administrator."
- Installation Path: It is recommended to keep the default installation path (
C:\Program Files\Huawei\eNSP) to avoid pathing issues.
- Firewall Permissions: During installation, Windows may prompt you to allow network access. Ensure you check both "Private networks" and "Public networks" (or at least Private), or the simulated devices will not be able to communicate with your PC.
- Initial Launch: After installation, open eNSP. Go to the top menu, select Menu -> Tools -> Register Device. This links eNSP with VirtualBox.
