Ed64 Plus Firmware [WORKING]
The ED64 Plus Firmware: A Deep Dive into the Budget N64 Flash Cart
Hardware Revisions and Firmware Compatibility
Not all ED64 Plus units are identical. Over the years, at least three hardware revisions appeared:
| Revision | FPGA Chip | CIC Type | RTC Battery | Firmware Notes | |----------|-----------|----------|-------------|----------------| | v1.0 | Cyclone II | CIC 6102 socketed | No | Alt64 works but may have save bugs. | | v2.0 | Cyclone II | CIC 6102 soldered | Yes | Best compatibility. Alt64/Neo64 fully supported. | | v3.0 | Cyclone IV | CIC 6105 integrated | Yes | Some users report Neo64 boot issues. Stock firmware only. |
Always verify your revision by opening the cartridge (four screws) and checking the PCB silkscreen. If you have a v3.0, stick with stock firmware or test Alt64 carefully. ed64 plus firmware
Step 2: Download the Correct Firmware
Do not use random forum links. Reputable sources include:
- GBAtemp.net ED64 Plus thread (most reliable archive)
- GitHub repositories for "ED64P-Alt64" (search for Saturnu’s Alt64 builds)
Download the .bin or .upd file. Common filenames: ED64P_v2.0_Alt64.bin, OS_S62.v64, or update.v64. The ED64 Plus Firmware: A Deep Dive into
Part 8: The Current State of ED64 Plus Firmware (2024-2025)
Active development on ED64 Plus firmware has largely ceased. The last meaningful community release was in 2021 (unofficial v2.01). Since then:
- No new USB flasher updates.
- No fixes for the 64DD emulation or Aleck 64 games.
- No support for the N64’s full 64MB RAM (via expansion pak) in certain homebrew.
The scene has moved on to the SummerCart64 (open-source) and the EverDrive 64 Pro. However, for the vast majority of commercial N64 games, the community ED64 Plus firmware v2.0 remains stable and usable. GBAtemp
The final stable firmware can be identified by:
- File size:
OS64.v64= 2,097,152 bytes - MD5:
b5a8f5a3e...(check forums) - Menu background: dark gradient with N64 logo
Step 1: Prepare the SD Card
- Format your SD card as FAT32 (not exFAT or NTFS).
- Copy the new menu file (
ED64Pfolder andmenu.bin/OS64.v64) to the SD root. This is the menu (the visible interface). Firmware is separate.
B. The FPGA Core (The "BIOS")
This is the actual hardware configuration loaded onto the Cyclone II chip. This is the low-level code that tells the cart how to behave like an N64 cartridge.
- File: Usually named
ED64.v64,CIC_6101.v64, or similar. - Function: This is the "brain" of the cartridge. Warning: Flashing the wrong FPGA core can render your cartridge unusable (bricked).
