It is primarily required for users initializing the system from a Windows-based system; macOS and Linux users can typically discover the array by pointing their browser directly at the uninitialized system. Launch: Open the HPE Discovery Tool.exe file on your Windows host.

Search: Select your network type (IPv4/IPv6) and enter the serial number found on the pull-out tab of the controller node enclosure.

Step 3: Start Discovery

Click "Start Discovery" . The tool will display a progress bar and a live log of activities:

• Sending discovery probes to 5 targets...
• Waiting for responses from Primera arrays...
• Processing WSMAN responses...

When to contact HPE Support

• Hardware faults discovered by PDT (controller, drive, power failures)
• Tool errors that indicate internal failures or corrupted arrays
• When diagnostics need to be uploaded for deeper analysis

Prerequisites

• You have a valid HPE support account.

Alternatives to the Discovery Tool

• Serial console: Use a mini-USB cable to access the boot console. (Slow, old-school.)
• DHCP server logs: Check your DHCP server for leases from the Primera’s MAC address.
• HPE InfoSight: If the array is already registered, InfoSight can tell you the management IP remotely.

But for a brand-new array or a factory reset? The Discovery Tool is the fastest method.
