Step 2: Prepare the USB Drive
- Insert USB drive into your computer.
- Format to FAT32 (not exFAT or NTFS).
- On Windows: Right-click drive → Format → FAT32.
- On Mac: Disk Utility → MS-DOS (FAT).
- Extract the downloaded ZIP file.
- Copy the entire “DPMS” folder (not just the files inside) to the root of the USB drive.

Method 2: Update via USB (If Network is Unavailable)

Steps:
- Download the File:
- Visit the official Denon Support website (Denon.com > Support > Product Archives > AVR-X4000).
- Look for "Firmware Update" or "Software Update."
- Download the
.zipor.binfile.
- Prepare the USB Drive:
- Use a USB drive formatted in FAT32 (this is crucial; NTFS often does not work on older AVRs).
- Extract the downloaded file.

Step 3: Install Firmware via USB
- Turn off the AVR-X4000 using the front panel power button (not standby).
- Insert the USB drive into the front USB port (labeled “USB”).
- Hold down the following two buttons simultaneously on the front panel (not remote):
- “ZONE 2 SOURCE” and “ZONE 2 VOLUME –” (volume down).
- While holding them, press the front panel POWER ON button.
- Keep holding Zone 2 buttons until the front display shows “Update” or “USB Update Mode” .
- Release buttons. The update will begin automatically.
- The display will sequence through:
USB Reading...→Check File Data→Main Updating→DSP Updating(multiple cycles).
- Do not touch anything. Total time: 20–35 minutes.
- When finished, the receiver will display “Update Success” and restart.
