| Knob | Function | |------|----------| | Pre | Input gain (drives distortion) | | Mix | Wet/dry blend | | Tone | Simple low-pass filter (post-distortion) | | Output | Make-up gain |
3. The LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator)
Here is where D-Stortion becomes a modulation monster. The LFO can modulate the Drive, Mix, or Filter Cutoff. d-stortion vst
- Square wave LFO: Creates rhythmic "stutter distortion" (think Skrillex's "FM8" growls).
- Sine wave LFO: Produces a "wah-wah" distortion effect, similar to a resonant filter being swept through a fuzz pedal.
Technique 4: 808 Destruction
Modern 808s are usually clean sine waves. D-Stortion can ruin them beautifully. Report: d-stortion VST by Dmitry Sches 4
- Turn the Curve into a hard clipper.
- Add a tiny amount of low-pass filtering after distortion.
- Result: The 808 now has audible upper harmonics (distortion that tracks the pitch) allowing the 808 to be heard on laptop speakers without losing sub-bass weight.
