Autodesk Maya 2013 Install Guide

Important Note: Maya 2013 is very old software (released in 2012). It is not officially supported on Windows 10 or Windows 11. You may experience crashes, UI glitches, or installation failure. For best results, install on Windows 7 or Windows 8. If using Windows 10/11, you must run the installer in compatibility mode.


Installation Steps

Post-Installation (Windows 10/11 Users)

After installation, set compatibility on the Maya executable:

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2013\bin\
  2. Right-click maya.exePropertiesCompatibility.
  3. Set:
    • Windows 7 compatibility mode
    • Disable fullscreen optimizations (check)
    • Run as Administrator
  4. Click ApplyOK.

2. Run Setup

  • Navigate to the disc drive → right-click Setup.exePropertiesCompatibility tab.
  • Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 7
  • Check Run as Administrator.
  • Click ApplyOK.
  • Double-click Setup.exe.

For Downloaded Installation:

  1. Extract the Files: If your download came as a zip or similar archive, extract it to a folder on your computer.

  2. Start Installation: Navigate to the extracted folder and find the “Setup.exe” or similar. Double-click it to start the installation. Important Note: Maya 2013 is very old software

  3. Proceed as Above: The rest of the process is similar to the DVD installation.

Method 2: Use the Autodesk Network License Manager (for businesses)

If your company has a legacy floating license file (.lic), you can run the legacy lmgrd server on a Windows 7 machine. This is complex and requires IT support. 3. Install Process

Step 4: Configuration

Here you choose what to install and where.

  1. Installation Path: The default path is usually C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2013. It is generally recommended to keep the default path unless you have specific drive constraints.
  2. Select Components:
    • Maya: The core application.
    • Autodesk Backburner: A background rendering manager (optional, uncheck if not using a render farm).
    • Motion Capture Samples: Sample files for motion capture (optional).
    • Help Files: Documentation (usually stored locally).
  3. Click Install.

3. Install Process

  • Click Install (not Install Tools & Utilities).
  • Accept the license agreement.
  • Serial Number: Use 666-69696969 (or 667-98989898, 657-12345678).
  • Product Key: 657E1 (for Maya 2013) or 660E1 (Maya 2013 with SketchBook Designer). Confirm your version.
  • Click Next.
