Phase 4 – Second Crossing (Fog & Echoes)

  • Challenge: The river splits into three channels. Only the left channel leads to the church.
  • Navigation aid: Listen for a woman’s whisper. When the whisper says “Anna,” row right. When it says “Come back,” row left.
    • Common walkthrough mistake: Players row toward the voice – wrong. Row away from “Anna,” toward “Come back.”
  • End of trip: A submerged gate rises. Row through → cutscene of the church dock.

Conclusion: Master the Lake, Master the Game

The boat trip in Anna: Extended Edition (Anna 2) is a brilliant, terrifying puzzle that tests your patience and observation skills. By following this walkthrough—navigating debris, grabbing the floating key, avoiding the bird panic, and docking correctly—you will not only survive but also secure a critical item for the later chapters.

Remember: In this game, the lake is not your enemy. Panic is.

Introduction: The First Major Puzzle

Anna: Extended Edition (often mistakenly called Anna 2 by players referring to the remastered version) is a psychological horror game set in a cursed sawmill in the Italian Alps. The game is notorious for its punishing difficulty, opaque puzzles, and a sanity system that can lead to multiple dead ends. Anna 2 Boat Trip Walkthrough

One of the earliest and most frustrating sequences for new players is the Boat Trip. After exploring the church and the sawmill’s exterior, you discover a rowboat tied to a dock near the water. Interacting with it triggers a surreal journey across a foggy lake—a sequence that is part cutscene, part puzzle, and entirely easy to fail.

If you fail the boat trip, you die instantly and must reload your last save. This walkthrough will guide you through every step, ensuring you reach the other side alive.

Step 4: Finding the Floating Key (Critical Moment)

About 45 seconds into the trip, you will see a faint golden glow in the water approximately 20 meters ahead of the boat. This is the Rusty Key—required to enter the sawmill’s basement later. If you miss it, you cannot complete the game. Anna 2 Boat Trip Walkthrough Phase 4 –

How to get the key:

  1. Stop rowing completely.
  2. Look over the side of the boat (move your mouse down).
  3. When the key is directly beside the boat, a prompt “Take” will appear.
  4. Press the interaction key quickly. If you take too long, the key sinks.

Part 3: Engine Room and Propeller

1. The Engine Hatch

  • Exit the cabin and go to the back of the boat (stern).
  • You will see a metal grate/hatch on the floor.
  • There is usually a bolt or lock mechanism here.
  • Look closely at the lock mechanism. You often need a wrench or screwdriver.
  • If you don't have a tool, check the toolbox in the cabin (on the shelf) to find a Wrench.
  • Use the Wrench to unscrew the bolts on the hatch.
  • Open the hatch to reveal the Engine.

2. Fueling the Engine

  • The engine has a empty tank.
  • Select the Gas Canister from your inventory and use it on the engine tank.
  • The tank is now full.

3. The Propeller Obstruction

  • Look over the side of the boat near the back. You will see the propeller is tangled with rope or seaweed.
  • Use the Lighter (or sometimes a knife if found earlier) to burn/cut the obstruction away from the propeller.

What You Need:

  1. The Sawmill Key: Found inside the church after solving the initial "confessional door" puzzle.
  2. The Empty Bucket: Located near the well outside the sawmill.
  3. The Water Pump Handle: Found in the small shed near the garden.

Crucial Tip: Do not get into the boat before reading the Letter from the Architect in the church attic. Without that lore trigger, the boat sequence will not function correctly.
